1
paper CO_ColombianAppliedLinguisticsJournaltxt52 - : It indicates that the act of writing is far beyond the fact of only putting well organized words and structures on a white piece of paper; it is rather the act of giving meaning and substance to our thoughts. Mitchell (1996) puts it as follows: "writing is a process of discovering and creating meaning" (p.39). Writing implies more than the selection of the right structures, words and general conventions of the language; it is a mental process of using and arranging formal structures in such a way that they can create actual meaning to what the writer has in his head and wants to express in written language. "Good writing is an extension of clear thinking, and writing competence is how the writer makes meaning in written language" (Mitchell,1996: 4 ).

2
paper CO_FormayFuncióntxt20 - : What is interesting and fascinating about this discovery of a female calligraphy in Chinese is that it allowed women to express themselves in their daily and routinely activities. It was a kind of subversive written language, to which men seemingly had no access or simply were not interested in it:

3
paper CO_Íkalatxt21 - : Finally, Kalantzis and Cope critique process approaches for blurring differences between written and spoken language (1993). To them, written language is very different from oral language: ''it does different things, in different social contexts, for different social purposes, and uses a very different kind of linguistic technology'' (p .61). Process theorists' disregard for these differences, along with their neglect for factual genres, only disadvantages students, Kalantzis and Cope say, since it deprives them from learning the language of schooling and ''the hows and whys of the dominant culture'' (p. 62).

paper VE_Letrastxt178 - : This is a documetary research work whose main objective is to study how written language in America has functioned since colonial times until the XXI century . To this aim, intention, pragmatics and technology have been considered in order to explore the ways in which the writing process has evolved in our American societies. To do so, the works of Simón Rodríguez, Andrés Bello, as well as fictional and essay criticism by writers such as Lizardi and Ángel Rama have been taken into account, focusing on their viewpoints on the importance of writing for the society of every time. Also, these opinions are contrasted with the description and analysis of contemporary criticism on the issue related to text messaging and the chat, as main electronic texts, and how they affect formal writing and especially the Spanish orthograpy. It has been confirmed, and evidenced in our conclusions, that current writing in electronic media and networks is basically functional and communicative. For this reason,

8
paper corpusSignostxt421 - : The written language of the posters analysed shows the characteristics of political discourse, whose main purpose is to persuade the audience to vote for Fianna Fáil: use of ellipsis, positive language, repetitions, and short phrases are the main features of the slogans found in the posters . In this sense, the different slogans and the visual representation of Bertie Ahern and Micheál Martin as secure political leaders suggest the idea of Ireland as a European country that was in a process of socio-economic development in Europe and whose expansion was progressively growing.
